Free Community Health Fair is Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (2017)
How healthy are you? Organizers of the Community Health Fair want to make sure you're in good shape on the inside and out.
Manna Fellowship Church, located east of Raymore on Highway 291, is partnering with Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI), the nation’s largest non-profit kidney care provider, for a free day to improve your health and your spirits. The Community Health Fair is a free day of health screenings, health education and creative activities for kids. Drawings for gift cards from local businesses will occur throughout the event.
The focus of the health fair is kidney health and kidney disease prevention. It will include:
• Blood pressure and blood sugar screenings
• Information on kidney health and kidney-related diseases
• Dietary counseling
• Practical tips for a healthy lifestyle
• Knowledge about your medications
Why focus on kidney health?
More than 26 million Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease. That means 1 in 10 people is at risk for developing kidney disease in their lifetime. Millions are undiagnosed. You don't want to be one of them.
Who’s at Risk?
Everyone has some risk of kidney disease, but some have a greater likelihood. Diabetes, high blood pressure and family history are some of the leading causes.
“Manna Fellowship Church is active in meeting practical needs around the world and in Cass County,” said Pastor Rick Friesen. “This is a totally free event, with no strings attached, for the benefit of our community. Even if you're not interested in screenings, bring the kids for a fun day and get in on the drawings for prizes.”
Kristi Synder, DCI pharmacist, said the health fair is one of the non-profit's free educational events, known as a Purpose Project. The projects are community service events funded by DCI to promote kidney awareness and health. DCI believes providing early kidney disease detection and screening may help prevent or delay kidney failure.
